In a world that seems to be all about being on the go, stress, glitz, glamour, noise, sound bites, and 'heebie-jeebies,' to spend some time with Karen Wiles' photography feels like a breath of fresh air...a place to be. It may be calm, but it isn't boring. And best of all, its REAL because the artist is REAL. For Karen, it's not about the technical know-how and tricks of photography, but about her authenticity and being able to portray feelings and emotional reactions within her images. She has her own unique way of seeing, that reflects in her work and creates an intensity and depth that many other artists may not succeed in achieving.
She most recently added the World Class 'Orient Express Hotels' to her long list of art collectors who now display her Fine Art images.
Her latest award was won in April, 2013 for 'Eye of Reflection' in the Wilmington Art Association Spring show as part of the Wilmington azalea Festival, held in Wilmington, North Carolina. This same image also won an award in March of 2013 from the Photographic Society of America's (PSA EID) International Competitions.
Mrs. Wiles 'Joy of the Dance' image is being published by North Carolina's 'Our State' Magazine for their featured tarheel image for the month of May, 2013. 'Joy of the Dance' and 'Cypress Waltz' are also being displayed at the Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, North Carolina as part of the Lower Cape Fear Exhibition which opens in April and runs through the end of October 2013 repesenting the Cape Fear Camera Club.
In November of 2012, she received First Place in the Waccamaw Art Association of South Carolina for her image 'On the Prowl.'
She won the Pender Pines Photography competition held in her coastal hometown of Hampstead, North Carolina for her beautiful image 'Unveiling Life,' in the summer of 2012.
In May of 2012 she also received another award for her dynamic 'On the Prowl' image from the Photographic Society of America (PSA EID) National Division.
She received an award for her 'Dawn of New Year' image in the WAA's Juried Spring Art Competition in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2011. This print and others have won many art competitions this year and last year in various competitions. Karen's work is presently displayed in galleries, estates, banks, offices, hotels, spas, and wellness centers as well as on Fine Art America and other internet venues.
Karen's favorite piece of artwork at present is her 'Dawn of New Year,' with her 'Tranquility Below' running a close second...
'In the case of Karen's image entitled 'Dawn of New Year,' the meaning is found simply in the sheer beauty of this world. This is probably her best known and biggest contest winner so far. This beautiful image may be Karen's favorite, but the most popular no doubt is her spellbinding image of 'Tranquility Below,' with almost 7000 views at present and hundreds of wonderful comments.
Karen's images were judged and chosen by a national cell phone company for submittal of her photography on cell skins as well as scenic wallpapers for phones, along with their other electronic products.
Earlier this year she granted national singer and songwriter Kara McGraw the rights to use some of her photography for Ms. McGraw's upcoming albums which will feature her latest hit 'Chandelier' to be released soon and is presently seen on UTube, ITunes, and Facebook.
Mrs. Wiles also consented for several images to be published this year in Holland America's 'Mariner' magazine, 'Artists, Writers, & Photographers In the Raw Magazine,' several newspapers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Florida, and many others which are circulated throughout the United States, and abroad.
